i think i had too much sugar last night. i’ve been up since 4am. i’m at my grandparent’s house in white plains, ny for the holiday. last night my aunt brought out a bunch of old photos from my dad’s family growing up, along with many old pictures of my parents as a young couple, and photos of my brothers and i growing up.
as i crept around the house in the dark this early morning, while everyone else is still asleep, i thought back to some of those photos, and the amount of time i have spent in this house throughout my entire life.
and i realized, this is the only house that has remained a constant in my life.
my family has lived in 4 different homes since i was born, many of my aunts and uncles have different homes, or i don’t spend much time at their homes, my mom’s parents have passed away and their home was sold.
i have always felt connected to this house. this constant.

how can one not feel connected to a place so constant in their own personal history?
as we grow older, how many true constants remain in our lives?
